Havana, March 9 (RHC-ACN)-- A large wildfire that started March 5 in the Guanes municipality in the Cuban westernmost province of Pinar del Rio was finally contained after it burnt close to 2,000 acres of forest.

According to the El Guerrillero newspaper, the quick and decisive work of the task force assigned to the area made it possible to control the fire and avoid further evils. The joint action of the fire brigade and ranger corps, the Ministry of the Interior, the Civil Defense and other agencies ultimately checked the fire.

The fire, which began in the afternoon of 5 March, was a result of elevated temperatures, lack of humidity, and the speed of the prevailing winds.
