Havana, April 11 (RHC), -- The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) today opened its eighth national congress, focused on strengthening the nation's rich cultural heritage.
Under the slogan "Culture Is The First Thing To Be Rescued," participants will meet on Friday and Saturday to discuss ways to salvage and preserve Cuban idiosyncrasy, culture and moral values.
The president of UNEAC, poet and ethnologist Miguel Barnet, opined that this congress should be characterised by a more mature and realistic debate on the need to improve the modern Cuban society, through better educational and cultural policies.
