Havana, August 1 (RHC)-- The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported 25 new cases detected yesterday of COVID-19, for a total of 2,633 positive cases across the island. 

During his daily press briefing held Saturday morning, Dr. Duran said that over the past 24 hours -- up until 12 midnight Friday night –  fortunately, no patients died from the coronavirus.  This is the 20th consecutive day there have been no deaths from the virus in Cuba.

Cuba has reported some 130 positive cases during the week, and island authorities are urging citizens to abide by the restrictions required to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

Reckless behavior by some people was the main cause of the spike in the number of positive cases, most of them in the recent local transmission events opened in Havana and Artemisa provinces.

A total of 87 patients have died in Cuba over the past several months.
