Managua, July 20 (RHC)-- The five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez were presented with the “Order of Peacemakers” by members of the Sandinista Youth on Sunday in Managua.

The awards ceremony was held at the Palace of Culture of Nicaragua as part of the activities for the 36th anniversary of the Popular Sandinista Revolution, to which the Cuban Five were invited.

Young Nicaraguans highlighted the struggle of the Cuban heroes, who were also awarded the “July 23rd Order for Heroism and Courage,” and the “Julio Buitrago Urroz Order,” the highest distinction awarded by the National Union of Students of Nicaragua.

After participating in the awards ceremony, the Cuban Five went to the Plaza La Fe, where hundreds of thousands gathered to celebrate the 36 years of the Sandinista Revolution, along with President Nicaraguan Daniel Ortega.
