Havana, December 23 (RHC)-- A ceremony took place at the Havana-headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan.

The occasion also served to commemorate the friendship and cooperation ties between Kazakhstan and Cuba since the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

The business attache of the Kazakh embassy in Havana, Israil Tiliaguen, took the opportunity to congratulate ICAP for all the work and effort to strengthen Cuba's friendship and solidarity ties with the Central Asian and other countries and peoples the world over.

Kazakhstan was the last of the Soviet republics to declare independence, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Cuba and Kazakhstan maintain mutually beneficial cooperation relations in sectors like education, sports, science and biotechnology.
