Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has denounced that many Cubans who have emigrated to the United State are victims of the habitual and growing discriminatory treatment suffered by newcomers.
«This reality is compounded by the betrayal of anti-Cuban politicians who have historically manipulated emigration for political ends and then abandon to their fate those they encouraged to migrate with promises of success and protection, in the face of fierce anti-immigrant repression policies.»
In January of this year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, condemned the mistreatment and dehumanization of migrants in the United States and urged the country to respect these individuals.
In a statement, Türk expressed concern about the situation of many foreigners and stressed the importance of implementing policies and practices centered on human dignity and the right to due process.
Since taking office, President Donald Trump has promoted a series of anti-immigration policies that have been criticized by international organizations, particularly for the criminalization of asylum seekers, mass detentions, and the elimination of protection programs.
