Havana, April 22 (RHC) – Barcelona reaffirmed their first position in the Spanish football league today, with a 1-0 victory against Celta Vigo on matchday 33 at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium.
Lamine Yamal’s penalty in the 40th minute secured the three points for Barcelona.
Yamal suffered an injury and left the field in first-half stoppage time (45+3), being replaced by Rony Bardghji. Barcelona defender Joao Cancelo also had an injury in the 22nd minute and was substituted by Alejandro Balde.
With this victory, Barcelona increased its points total to 82 at the top of the table, nine points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. Celta Vigo remained in seventh place with 44 points.
Elche defeated Atlético Madrid 3-2 and climbed out of the relegation zone, capitalizing on key moments and Atlético’s defensive weaknesses.
A brace from Portuguese striker André Silva in the 33rd and 75th minutes, the first a penalty, and a goal from Austrian David Affengruber (18) secured the victory for the team managed by Eder Sarabia.
For the capital club, currently fourth in the league, Argentine Nicolás González scored twice (10th and 34th minutes).
In the other match of the day, Getafe, sixth in the standings, defeated Real Sociedad (eighth) with an own goal by Jon Gorrotxategi (29th minute).
