President Miguel Díaz-Canel led the National Defense Day activities on Friday in the Rampa Defense Zone, located in the Plaza de la Revolución, where he reaffirmed that defense preparedness is a priority for Cuba.
On his X account, the president highlighted that dignity and unity are the premises for protecting the Homeland.
Díaz-Canel was accompanied by the Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee, Roberto Morales; the ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior, Álvaro López and Lázaro Alberto Álvarez; and the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, José Amado Ricardo.
The Rampa Defense Zone encompasses nearly 15,000 inhabitants across 15 electoral districts and was activated last May.
Its main strength, according to a report by the newspaper *Granma*, is the coordination among the forces that make up the territorial defense system.
During the tour, three priorities were addressed: defense, attention to economic and social issues, and popular participation.
Regarding economic and social matters, Díaz-Canel mentioned the electricity situation, water supply, food production, care for vulnerable individuals, and solid waste collection.
He also referred to the implementation of the 176 transformations approved by the National Assembly; of these, 158 already have established procedures and 190 corresponding legal regulations in place.
The Cuban president announced that a debate would be opened with workers so they could contribute to the Economic Plan, followed by discussions within communities.
“Community-level discussion is very important,” he said, because that is where retirees and vulnerable families are located.
As a third priority, he reaffirmed the importance of popular oversight and participation through movements such as “Mi Barrio por la Patria” (My Neighborhood for the Homeland) and the Community Youth Network. Regarding the threats from the United States government, the president reaffirmed the determination to defend the country’s dignity and unity.
“The construction of socialism in our country, under these conditions, must be genuinely Cuban,” he concluded.
