Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of “further strengthening” the economic and energy blockade against the Caribbean nation through his “usual and vulgar lies.”
“The Secretary of State of the U.S. regime, driven by ambitions of conquest, presidential aspirations, and the vindictive sentiments of the elitist clique that propelled his political career, is now further reinforcing the economic and energy blockade against Cuba,” stated the Cuban foreign minister on his official X account.
He declared that Rubio “doesn’t resort to excuses prepared by his State Department, but rather to the usual vulgar lies, the most aggressive, ignorant, and rabid of Cuba’s enemies.”
Bruno Rodríguez’s statements came after Washington announced sanctions against Unión Cuba-Petróleo (CUPET), the company responsible for oil and gas exploration, extraction, and production on the Caribbean island.
To justify this new aggression against Cuba, Washington alleged that the decision against the Cuban state oil company is related to sanctions against Russia and its list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN).
“Today I am sanctioning Cuba’s state-owned energy company, Unión Cuba-Petróleo (CUPET), under President (Donald) Trump’s Executive Order 14404,” Rubio stated via X, adding that the real estate mogul “wants a new future for the Cuban people, with greater freedom and economic and political opportunity”; therefore, he indicated that they will continue “targeting the capacity” of the Cuban government.
The Caribbean nation’s economy is severely impacted by the White House’s economic war. In recent months, Cuba has been hit by a multidimensional blockade strengthened by multiple coercive measures imposed by the Trump Administration. These measures harm essential services for Cuba, such as transportation, healthcare, education, food, tourism, and electricity.
