Venezuelans denounce U.S. infamy against ICAP directors

by Ed Newman

The Venezuela-Cuba National Movement of Friendship and Mutual Solidarity issued a strong statement today denouncing what it called the infamous and unjust measure taken by the United States government against directors and officials of ICAP (Cuban Institute of Friendship and Solidarity).

The solidarity organization, on behalf of the people of Venezuela and all free men and women of the world who believe in solidarity and social justice, addressed the international community to “strongly denounce the infamous and unjust measure” of the US administration.

It stated that the decision was imposed through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in his eagerness to “maintain the policy of maximum pressure against Cuba.”

The text indicated that the U.S. State Department added to its sanctions list “three worthy representatives” of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), headed by its president and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando González.

Also included were its first vice president, Noemí Rabaza, and the director for North America, Leima Martínez.

It stated that this action, dictated by the “Lord of Hate,” as he is known, is nothing more than a desperate attempt to tarnish the honor and dignity of those who, through their daily work, uphold the principal banners of the Cuban people’s struggle: internationalism and solidarity, indelible legacies of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

He emphasized that the sanctions, which also target nine Cuban state entities linked to strategic sectors such as mining, metallurgy, construction, and foreign trade, “aim to criminalize the genuine exercise of solidarity with Cuba in the United States and the world.”

Among these entities are Acinox Comercial, Geominsal, Metalcuba, and the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Company, as well as the Ministry of Construction and the Agency for Contracting Commercial Representations SA.

Also included are Coratur SA, Transimport, and Consumimport, three companies belonging to the Foreign Trade Business Group (Gecomex), which has already been penalized by Washington.

The Movement labeled the decision a “ridiculous and petty action,” and asserted that far from intimidating those fighting for just causes, it “strengthens our resolve and motivates us to continue defending the great social achievement that the Cuban Revolution represents for the world.”

The solidarity organization emphasized that US imperialism, represented today by figures like Marco Rubio, “still fails to understand that solidarity cannot be stopped by blockades or threats.”

“While they try to punish our brothers with sanctions, all they reap is global condemnation,” and these three sanctioned brothers, on the contrary, inspire profound admiration and respect among all peoples who fight for their dignity and to build a more just and humane world, he asserted.

The solidarity group reiterated its unwavering solidarity with González, Rabaza, and Martínez, and reaffirmed its “commitment to continue building, alongside the most humble people on earth, a better world,” where blockades and sanctions are defeated by the power of internationalism and solidarity.

“Solidarity is not sanctioned, it multiplies!” he concluded.
