Havana, April 5 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, sent his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Reverend Joan Campbell, who recently passed away in the United States.
In a message posted on the social network X, the Cuban president remembered Reverend Campbell as a "beloved person who represented the noblest sentiments of solidarity of the American people," especially during the case of Elián González, whose return to Cuba in 2000 she firmly defended.
On the same social network, Bruno Rodríguez, a member of the PCC Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted her work as former president of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States and her tireless commitment to humanitarian causes.
Reverend Campbell was a key ally in the fight for family reunification for little Elián, kidnapped in Miami after his mother's death in the Florida Straits.
Reverend Campbell's efforts, along with religious leaders and activists, contributed to the boy's return to Cuba with his father, Juan Miguel González.
