Leyanis Pérez
Havana, Jun 6 (JIT) - Cuba's Leyanis Perez made her debut today in the triple jump of the Diamond League of Rome, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, with a record of 14.46 meters and placed second.
The 2025 world indoor champion achieved the maximum record in her third attempt at the Olympic Stadium of the Italian capital.
She opened with a pair of fouls, something logical after her international inactivity, and then scored another valid jump on her fifth attempt with a discreet 11.53 meters.
Her coach Ricardo Ponce had said that he was leaving her "free" to adapt to the arrival of the season, but that even so he expected a record close to 14.50 meters... and it was fulfilled.
The event was won by Jamaican Shanieka Ricketts with 14.64 meters and confirmed herself at the top of the circuit ranking, owner of 16 points, as she also led the Doha phase, last May.
Olympic champion Thea Lafond, from Dominica, finished third with 14.30 meters in a ranking that had Cuba's Liadagmis Povea as fourth thanks to her 14.17 meters achieved in her second attempt.
After these performances, Leyanis was included in the ranking of the event with seven units and Povea with five. Lafond appears with 13, second to Ricketts.
Among other outstanding results in the Eternal City were the 69.21 meters with which the American Valarie Allman set a record for the meeting in the discus throw, and the 14:03.69 minutes with which the Kenyan Beatrice Chebet set a national record and a record for the competition in the 5000 meters.
