Washington, July 15 (RHC)—Four Democratic congresswomen targeted by US President Donald Trump in a series of tweets on Sunday say his remarks are an example of "racism" and argued that the comments are "stoking white nationalism."

Trump did not single them out by name, but it was obvious he was referring to New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes and three other freshmen representatives who are minority women and outspoken critics of the president.

"So interesting to see 'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world…now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run," the president wrote.

His remarks triggered wide spread condemnation including that of Hillary Clinton who replied on Twitter: “They are from America, and you are right about one thing: Currently their government is a complete and total catastrophe.”

As members of Congress, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan are U.S. citizens. All but Omar were born in the United States. Omar is originally from Somalia.
