Ecuador Holds Meeting of the International Military Sports Council

Quito, May 7 (NNN-RHC) -- The Sixty-Ninth General Assembly of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) started Tuesday and will end Thursday in Quito with the participation of delegates from its 78 member countries.

On the agenda of this meeting is the organization of the II Youth World Championship to be held in September in military schools of Guayaquil.

In this regard, the chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces of Ecuador, Major General Luis Garzón, emphasized that the goal of the sports event is to contribute to peace through sports between armed forces of the five continents.

According to organizers, around 2,500 cadets will participate in various disciplines such as pentathlon, volleyball, swimming, athletics and military shooting.

In a statement by the Ministry of National Defense, the Sixth Assembly of CISM has among its tasks, planning activities for the next period and determining the date of the next Congress.

It has also to elect the new governing body, to govern the fate of CISM over the next two years.

The CISM President, Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Cameroonian Army, congratulated the Ecuadorian Armed Forces for the organization of the meeting.
