Caracas, April 21 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Ahead of parliamentary elections set to take place this year, Venezuelan political parties began their primaries Monday with the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) announcement that it had received some 46,000 candidate registrations.

The vice president of PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, announced they are expecting to close the registration process with as many as 50,000 candidates. On the PSUV website, the party said 60 percent of the potential candidates are women.

“We have no problem with the fact that this revolution is completely feminist,” said Cabello, adding that right-wing parties are planning to not carry internal elections, given the low number of candidates they have registered.
