London, November 2 (RHC)-- The British media are reporting that hundreds clashed with police at an illegal rave in central London on Saturday night. Reports say the police tried to close an illegal rave in Lambeth, central London, but when they arrived, they were confronted by a large group of people outside the venue.

During this confrontation, a number of objects were thrown at officers, including one reported "petrol bomb", the Police said.

Four officers were treated at the scene for injuries and a number of arrests were made. The Met Police said in a statement: "There are no further reports of officers injured at this time. There is one report of a member of the public, a man, being treated by London Ambulance Service."

In addition to attacking police, the group also caused criminal damage to private vehicles and property in the area, the Police also said. The rave was finally closed down at 6 a.m. and while police said disorder had stopped they remained at the scene moving people on from inside the venue. However, in a social media message, organizers of the event accused police of attacking people at the venue.

The event had been advertised on Facebook with 4,000 people saying they would attend.
