Havana, December 3 (RHC) -– The President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, inaugurated on Tuesday the exhibition Kiebe-Kiebe of Congolese traditional art at the House of Africa, located in Old Havana. The exhibit marks the 50th anniversary of relations between his country and Cuba.

Havana City Historian Eusebio Leal recalled the longstanding links between Cuba and Africa, especially the island's support of the struggles for African liberation.

Leal said that Cuba cannot be understood without referring to Africa, and added that the Cuban people are proud to have contributed their blood to the freedom of Africa and to continue helping that continent now that it has been hit by the worst illness of modern times.

Congolese Minister of Culture Jean Claude Gakosso said that Cuba is in the heart of the Republic of Congo, and expressed deep admiration for the island's capacity to resist under the toughest circumstances.
