Cayo Santa María, January 23 (RHC)-- Cuban Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, Vice President of the Council of State and Ministers, inaugurated an electrical substation at Cayo Santa Maria tourist resort in Villa Clara on Thursday.

Valdes, along with Julio Lima Corzo, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province, handed out certificates to outstanding workers in the construction of the new power generating facility.

The substation will guarantee greater reliability and protection to service in the tourist resorts of the northeastern keys of Villa Clara, where there are more than 8,000 rooms in area hotels.

Pedro Luis Rodríguez, director of the Villa Clara Electric Company, said the work was started in October 2012 and concluded last December, allowing to meet the present demand and respond to future requirements by the tourist industry.

This facility will protect the lines and power supply automatically in case of a short electrical breakdown in the affected area and also prevents damage to the rest of the circuits.

The plant replaces two protection systems of older technology and it is expected to increase the generation.
