Cuba expresses its gratitude for the support of its citizens residing in other countries, as confirmed on Saturday by a high-ranking official from the island’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX).
The Director of Migration Policy and Attention to Cubans Residing Abroad, Nora Alberteris, conveyed this message to delegates at the 8th Meeting of the Network that brings together the Cuban diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Alberteris acknowledged their efforts and their courage in “courageously facing harassment, threats, and even aggression from the most reactionary right wing.”
She commended the sustained solidarity of Cubans living in other countries toward their homeland, whether through statements, public demonstrations, or the sending of aid; “every contribution, large or small, strengthens our capacity to resist and move forward.”
The diplomat denounced the United States’ policy of applying pressure to try to implode the Caribbean nation.
She said that Washington is using hunger and disease as political weapons against the Cuban people.
At the same time, she emphasized, the US is threatening to use military force to impose change in Cuba. “The world needs to know that it would be an unnecessary massacre where Cubans and Americans would die,” she pointed out.
The official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) indicated that, amidst this context, her country is committed to moving forward, including the transformation of its energy matrix.
At the same time, she approved a series of measures that will transform the economy, with a role for Cubans, whether residing in the country or abroad, who are interested in “investing, donating, contributing technology, opening a market, or developing a project,” within a clear, stable, and respectful framework.
