Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez commemorated on Thursday the 59th anniversary of the death in combat of the “Heroic Guerrilla,” Ernesto Che Guevara, and some of his fellow fighters in Bolivia.
“Those who sought to assassinate him in order to erase his thinking never imagined that his revolutionary and anti-imperialist ideas would take root among the peoples of ‘Our America’ and among those of us who fight every day for freedom, sovereignty, and a more just and inclusive world,” Rodríguez wrote on X.
On the same social media platform, Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Che remains a symbol of struggle and hope.
“His thinking, example, and revolutionary commitment remain fully relevant and continue to inspire millions around the world,” the Foreign Ministry’s message stated.
On October 8, 1967, Che Guevara was wounded and captured in combat in the Yuro Ravine in Bolivia, and was executed by the Bolivian army the following day.
