Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Organization Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, invoked the example of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara on Thursday via his Facebook profile, marking another anniversary of his death in combat.
Morales Ojeda emphasized that “every October 8th, Che’s figure looms larger in the memory of peoples, and especially in Cuba,” and highlighted that his life, dedicated to the cause of the dispossessed, continues to illuminate the struggles for justice.
The leader recalled that the “Heroic Guerrilla” was not merely a combatant but also an internationalist who crossed borders to confront oppression, noting that his ideas regarding human dignity, solidarity, and emancipation remain fully relevant today.
In his message, he stated that “his sense of duty was not an abstraction: it was the daily decision to stand by the weak,” and that this militant internationalism led him to Cuba, the Congo, and Bolivia.
Morales Ojeda pointed out that in times of cynicism, fragmentation, and the resurgence of fascism, the figure of Che calls for consistency between thought and action, and for the certainty that another world is not only possible but necessary.
He concluded that “Che lives on in every act of rebellion, in every raised fist, and in every heart that refuses to accept injustice as destiny.”
