ECOJOVEN has become an ideal space for young Cubans to debate and contribute solutions aimed at environmentally friendly economic and social development, in line with the government's strategy to encourage the participation of the entire population in this endeavor.

Research and community projects on ecological issues are presented at this event, which starts at the municipal level and goes all the way to the national level.

The event is organized by Cuba's Youth Environmental Network of the Youth Technical Brigades, created in 2007 to contribute to the solution of environmental problems, strengthening the capacity for action of children, adolescents and young people.

For more than a decade ECOJOVEN has been contributing to the formation of an environmental culture, so necessary nowadays in view of the challenge posed to the country by climate change, which brings with it the intensification of meteorological phenomena.

The call for this year's edition was made by the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, in recognition of the work carried out by the young people of that territory in favor of environmental protection.

"Weaving Environmental Awareness" is the slogan that presides over the meeting, in which young people up to 35 years of age can participate in the modalities of papers, audiovisuals and photographs that are related to agroecology, ecosystem management and biodiversity and addressing climate change, among other topics.

Frank Eduardo Monterrey Padrón, president of the Youth Technical Brigades, emphasized the importance of having young people linked to food production, one of the country's priorities, respond to this call.

This process, said the organizers, has a greater connotation, since December 6 will mark 60 years since the Youth Technical Brigades were created by the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro.

ECOJOVEN undoubtedly supports the actions carried out by Cuba to gain resilience to climate change, which affects the economy, food security and life of the population. It seeks to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices in communities and in the country in general, and involve all sectors of society in the effort to move towards sustainable development.
