Havana, September 9 (RHC) -- The 13th Timbalaye Festival will take place September 14th through the 17th online, for the second consecutive time, due to the epidemiological situation in Cuba generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dedicated to Cuban Rumba, declared world intangible heritage of humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2015, the event will be streamed on the Facebook channel Streaming Cuba and on Canal Clave of Cuban television.

Organized by Akokan, a community development project created in the Havana neighborhood of Los Pocitos, the event has the support of the Hermanos Saíz Association of Young Artists, the Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the Cuban Music Institute and the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, among others.

The event’s program includes concerts by rumba ensembles, international colloquiums, the presentation of folklore projects, and interviews with renowned exponents of the Cuban genre.

First held in 1999, Timbalaye Festival celebrates the African influence on Cuban music and culture in general.
