Havana, September 26 (RHC)-- Cuba congratulated the people and government of the Republic of Guinea Bissau on the occasion of its National Day.

From its account on the social network X, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the will to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Guinea Bissau celebrates on this day the 50th anniversary of its independence from Portugal.

At the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, held last September 15 and 16, the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, Geraldo Joao Martins, thanked Cuba for its support in the struggles for the independence of his country.

"Cuba, under the auspices of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was one of the countries that most supported the struggle for the national independence of Guinea Bissau, sending Cuban internationalists," Martins stressed at the conclave.

Since our independence, friendship and cooperation between our two nations were further strengthened with the Cuban government's support for the training of cadres, a fact that remains to this day, he pointed out.

Cuba and Guinea Bissau established diplomatic relations in 1973 and maintain a close cooperation in health and human resources training, which has allowed thousands of young people from that West African nation to be trained in the Caribbean island in various specialties. (Source: Prensa Latina)
