Lima, August 13 (RHC) – Members of the Cuban delegation of athletes who competed in the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games in Peru, were awarded with the Peruvian Spanish Center´s Medal of Honor, the highest distinction the Center awards.  The Medal of Honor was received by the President of the Cuban Sports Institute, Osvaldo Vento Montiller, on behalf of all Cuban athletes.

The Cuban Ambassador to Peru, Sergio Gonzalez Gonzalez, reminded the efforts made by our Comandante Fidel Castro to develop Cuban sports, and praised Cuban athletes´ performances in the recently finished Pan-Am Games. ``Sports in our country (Cuba) are priority of social politics, thanks to Fidel Castro´s genius. If one looks at a competition´s table, and see which countries are better positioned than ours, they are countries that are quite more developed than ours´´, Gonzalez said.

The President of the Pan-Am Games Organizing Committee, Carlos Neuhaus, thanked the Cuban athletes for participating. ``I have the great pleasure of meeting you in a more relaxed mood, after competing. Thanks for visiting us and you will always be welcome to Peru´´.

Cuban Judoka, Idalys Ortiz, who became Pan-Am Champion for the third time in her career, thanked Peruvians for the warm welcome they gave to all athletes, from more than 40 countries, that competed in Lima.
