Havana, August 30 (RHC) – Cuban Long Jump athlete Juan Miguel Echevarria demonstrated his quality with an extraordinary jump of 8.65 meters, to win the Long Jump Finals in the Diamond League.

This jump does not only confirm Echevarria as a firm candidate to win in the World Championship, but it is also a new record in Zurich and for the Diamond League Circuit, and the season best in Long Jump.

The indoor World champion in 2018, achieved the 8.65 m mark in his first attempt with a wind speed of 0.5 m/s against him, and it represents the second-best jump of his career, only 3 cm away from his personal best of 8.71 m. The South African Rushwahl Samaai and the Jamaican Tajay Gayle finished behind the Cuban, both with 8.20 m.
