Obregón, September 28 (RHC/PL)-- Cuba defeated the Dominican Republic 6-2 today to advance to the Super Round of the World Baseball Championship for under-23s, which is being held in Obregon, Mexico.

In a rain postponed game of the first day, the Cubans came out to the Yaquis stadium looking for the victory and at the rhythm of one ticket and four hits they scored four of six in the second inning, to celebrate their fourth success in five outings.

Tickets to Yudiel González and consecutive hits by Andrys Perez, Loidel Chapellí, Rodoleisis Moreno and Rangel Ramos, plus Geysel Cepeda's ground ball to second, made the difference in the game against the Dominicans, valid to say goodbye to the stage as second in group A.

From the box, left-hander Naykel Cruz worked for six chapters, with two runs allowed, just a couple of hits, nine strikeouts and four tickets, to add his second win of the tournament.

On offense, the Cubans had 10 hits, with catcher Andrys Perez (3-2, 1-CA) and second baseman Rodoleisis Moreno (4-2, 1-3B, 2-CA, 1-CI).

The team coached by Eriel Sanchez reached the Super Round with one win and one loss, as did the three qualifiers of the B key, which were Venezuela, Colombia and Panama, only preceded by Mexico with 2-0. Chinese Taipei rounded out the qualifiers on the back of two defeats.

The stage of the best six teams of the world championship will begin tomorrow in the city of Hermosillo and Cuba will play against Venezuela.
