Havana, May 20 (RHC) - Another Cuban has just joined the Italian volleyball league, the best in the world. It is the auxiliary Osniel Mergarejo, who signed a two-season contract with Milan.

"The rumors of mid-April are confirmed.  A Cuban striker for Milan. The Allianz Powervolley formalizes the commitment of Osniel Mergarejo: a volleyball player born in 1997 and 1.97m of Cuban nationality will occupy an important place in the roster that will be available to coach Piazza for the next two seasons," said the Milanese press in welcoming the 25-year-old player, who arrives from the French Chaumont, where he excelled in the last two seasons.

"The sensations are the best I can have," the attacker told the Italian press.  "This is the best championship in the world.  Every volleyball player wants to be there, to make what is a unique experience in a sports career. Getting there is a goal that every player sets for himself. I already played in Argentina and France, with great success, a great experience.  Now my expectations for my first year in Italy and for the championship are the best," said the player from the province of Sancti Spiritus.

In France, Mergarejo demonstrated his qualities and enormous potential by ranking as one of the best attackers of the tournament.

"I love the club, the people of Milan, the team for next season, the city, everything is fundamental for me to do my part, to work hard, to be satisfied with this club, to continue growing in the sport and professionally. I really like being hired in Italy," he added.
