Havana, December 15 (RHC)-- World Aquatics will be the new name of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), as recently approved at its extraordinary congress held during the XVI Short Course Swimming World Championships Melbourne 2022, in Australia.

Kuwaiti Husain Al-Musallam, president of the organization, argued that all disciplines should be brought together "under one brand," according to information from the EFE news agency.

"We need a name that reflects the FINA family, a name that our swimmers, artistic swimmers, divers, divers, open water swimmers and water polo players can use with pride," he said.

The body's members also voted to create an independent aquatic integrity unit, which will take effect Jan. 1.

The international federation has been called FINA since its creation in 1908.
