Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- The Cuban men's handball team, junior category, will go in search of advancing to the final in the qualifying tournament for the World Championship of that sport, to be held in Mexico City.

The Cuban team, undefeated in the group phase with three wins without defeats, will face in one of the semifinals Guadeloupe (1-1), second place in the A bracket.

The United States (2-0), leader of that group, will face Martinique (2-1), the Cuban team's runner-up in segment B, in the other match, according to information provided to the Cuban News Agency by Franklin Guevara, national commissioner of that discipline.

In this qualifying tournament for the universal junior tournament, two tickets will be given to the world championship and a place in the Intercontinental competition, both events scheduled to be held next year.

On Monday, the Cuban national team made its debut in the competition with a 32-19 win against Martinique, and in its second game a day later defeated the local Mexicans by a score of 38-31, to close the preliminary round with a 46-20 win against Puerto Rico.

In that match against the Puerto Ricans, Lázaro Vega, with 12 goals, and Osmany Miniet (10) stood out on offense.
