Badminton: Cuba's Herrera loses in the round of 16 of the Giraldilla

Havana, March 17 (RHC)-- Cuban Roberto Carlos Herrera lost this Friday in the round of 16 of the Giraldilla International Badminton Tournament of Havana, which in its 21st edition hosts this capital until this coming Sunday.

In the coliseum of the Sports City, Herrera lost 17-21 and 10-21 to the Bulgarian Iliyan Stoynov, who had more trouble in the first set, but in the second he dominated without many problems.

With that result, the Cuban racquetball player could not advance to the round of the best eight in the men's singles event, although he added some points for the world ranking.

On Thursday, the Cuban player debuted with a victory against Canadian Shubh Krishan, with scores of 21-13 and 21-10, in the round of 32.

After four years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event returned to the competitive calendar, so it is a good opportunity for the 22 Cuban athletes participating.

The Giraldilla of Havana will give 1,700 units for the list of the orb to the winners in each of its five events, namely women's and men's singles, doubles in both sexes, and mixed doubles.

More than 30 players representing Canada, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Israel, Peru, Jamaica, Guatemala, Ecuador, the United States, Indonesia and Bulgaria will be attending the event.
