Havana, May 6 (RHC)-- New clashes begin today in the 62nd National Baseball Series (SNB).   Leaders Vegueros de Pinar del Río visit Cocodrilos de Matanzas at the Victoria de Girón stadium. 

Meanwhile, the runner-up Cazadores de Artemisa travel to Jose Ramon Cepero, headquarters of the Tigres de Ciego de Avila.

In a sub-series between teams in need of victory, the Industriales Leones will host the Alazanes de Granma at the Latinoamericano.

The Elefantes de Cienfuegos will host the Piratas de la Isla de la Juventud at the 5 de Septiembre.

The Azucareros de Villa Clara will host the Leñadores de Las Tunas at the Augusto César Sandino stadium.

At the José Antonio Huelga stadium, the Gallos de Sancti Spíritus will face the Huracanes de Mayabeque.

The Avispas de Santiago de Cuba will try to sting the Toros de Camagüey as visitors at the Cándido González stadium.

Meanwhile, the Cachorros de Holguín will host the Indios de Guantánamo at the Calixto García stadium in the city of parks.

The standings are led by the Vegueros de Pinar del Río, with 20 wins and 13 losses, followed by the Artemiseños (20-14), half a game behind.

One game behind are the Santiagueros (20-15), half a game behind are the islanders (19-15), and two games behind are the Tuneros (18-15) and Matanceros (19-16).

Two and a half games behind, and closing the first eight places that grant tickets to the post-season, are Avileños (17-15) and Holguineros (18-16).

Following from ninth to sixteenth place are: Mayabequenses (18-17), espirituanos (17-17), villaclareños (17-17), guantanameros (15-19), camagüeyanos (15-20), Industriales (14-21), cienfuegueros (13-21) and the national champions Granma (13-22) at the bottom of the standings.

In the individual order, Osmel Solano, from Pinar del Río, who plays for the Cazadores, leads the hitters with an average of 457. Another player who found a place outside his province of origin, Osday Silva, who plays for the Avispas, leads in runs batted in and home runs, with 49 and 13, respectively.

The pitchers are led by the right-hander Erlis Casanova, with 1.85 PCL; the one who has struck out the most is the left-hander Geonel Gutiérrez, with 43; the one who has saved the most games is the veteran Vladimir García, with 8; and Jonathan Carbó, from Pinar del Río, accumulates five victories.
