Leuris Pupo achieves best result for Cuba in World Shooting Championship

Havana, August 23 (RHC) - Cuba's Leuris Pupo, a double Olympic medalist, finished 19th in the qualifying round of the 25-meter rapid fire pistol at the World Shooting Sport Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Pupo, already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scored 289 units in the first round (Monday) and 291 in the second (Tuesday), for a total of 580.

Cubans Jorrge Felix Alvarez, Pan American and Central Caribbean champion, and Jorge Grau, multiple Central Caribbean champion, finished in 29th and 65th place, respectively, with rounds of 576 and 552.

The preliminary stage was led by China's Xinjie Wang with 588 points.

However, in the final reigned the other Chinese, Yuehong Li (39 points), followed by the French Clement Bessaguet (30).   

In the last world championship in Cairo 2022, Leuris Pupo, Olympic champion in London-2012 and bronze medalist in Tokyo-2020, finished 16th with 584 points.
