Havana, November 25 (RHC)-- Cuba's women's team lost 0-3 to favorite Mexico in the quarterfinals of the I North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) U17 volleyball tournament in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the Cubans lost in straight sets, 10-25, 17-25 and 19-25, in one hour and 13 minutes of play, with a highlight for Mexico's Aitana Rettke Tangana.

Aitana was the top scorer with 19 points, 15 in attacking, two in blocking and two in serving, while Salet Yuniksian Castillo Vladés (11/10-0-1) stood out for the Caribbean, two of the four -three Mexican- volleyball players with double digits.

Collectively, Mexico was better in attack, 45 points to 22, blocking (6-3), and service (11-3), while Cuba surrendered six points less due to their own errors (13-18).

With this result, the team from the largest Antillean Island will be looking for one of the fifth to eighth places this Saturday, just like Nicaragua, which was also defeated the day before by the Dominican Republic, with a 3-0 score (25-18, 25-20 and 25-14).

For Sunday are scheduled the challenges that will define the fifth step and the bronze and gold medals, in that order, as well as the winners of the three tickets for the First World Championship of the category in 2024. (Source: ACN)
