Matanzas, January 31 (PL) - Venezuelan José Tello won the home run derby staged at the Victoria de Girón stadium, as part of the collateral activities of the Baseball All-Star Series 2024.

In a power duel with his fellow countryman Juan Carlos Torres and Cubans Yordanis Samón and Rafael Viñales, Tello hit nine balls over the stands of the Matanzas stadium, an unreachable number for his rivals.

The number 16 of the Venezuelans, who on Monday qualified in the fourth and last place, after competing in a tiebreaker round, went out to the field ready to break the hegemony of Rafael Viñales and achieved his goal.

According to Tello, participating in the All-Star Series makes him very happy, as well as winning the derby, which was emotional and he aspires next year to retain the crown and play again in Cuba.

The winner was followed by his teammate Juan Carlos Torres and the member of the Cocodrilos de Matanzas Yordanis Samón, both with eight. Rafael Viñales, with five, occupied the fourth and last place of the competition developed in a period of two minutes and 30 seconds of rest.
