Moscow, February 26 (PL).- Russia will decide on its participation in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris after the final recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are known, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said today.

"The main thing during the making of this decision will be respect for Russian athletes, observance of their rights and abiding by the basic principles of the Olympic Charter," the minister told the Gazeta.ru online newspaper on Monday.

Matytsin recalled that the IOC will decide in March on the participation of Russian athletes in the Paris event and will then give the respective recommendations.

On February 28, 2022, the IOC recommended to international sports organizations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions because of the situation in Ukraine.

Months later the IOC itself left it to the choice of the Olympic committees of the different sports to decide whether to allow it, but they were to do so in their personal capacity and without the flag and anthem of their nations.
