Havana, May 14 (JIT) - Cuba's performance in the individual competitions of the IBSA Judo World Championship Kazakhstan 2025 concluded with two bronze medals.

Sheyla Hernandez (J2 +70 kg) won her second bronze medal, which meant her third in the orb, adding the silver medal in individual and team bronze, both achieved in Baku 2022.

The Paris 2024 runner-up needed only four seconds to defeat Thailand's Promphan Taenmun by ippon, but then stumbled against Brazil's Rebeca Silva, the eventual champion, who had also beaten her in the Paralympic final.

In the dispute for the podium, she faced another well-known Australian, Taylor Gosens, whom she defeated comfortably to fulfill the prediction of reaching the prize in this event.

Ariagna de la Caridad Hechevarría (J1 70 kg) pleasantly surprised by imitating her compatriot in results.

Despite losing in her first bout against Greek Theodora Paschalidou, by a narrow margin of one yuko, she recovered in the repechage.

There she defeated Khosiyatkhon Poziljonova of Uzbekistan by ippon in just over a minute and continued until the dispute for one of the bronze medals, which she won by waza-ari against Esmeralda Taskin of Türkiye.

José Manuel Romero (J2 64 kg) came out on top in less than a minute against his first opponent, Kazakhstan's Iskander Uldanov, but was soon caught by Georgian Zurab Zurabiani.

He then starred in a tough battle against Russia's Elmurad Mikailov, which lasted more than six minutes and was decided by yuko in Golden Rule in favor of the Slav, which left the Caribbean in seventh place.

This turned out to be a productive day for Brazil, which won four titles, as in addition to Silva, Brenda Souza De Freitas (J1 70 kg), Alana Maldonado (J2 70 kg), and Wilians De Araujo (J1 +95 kg) were crowned.

Also won Uzbekistan's Uljon Amrieva (J1 60 kg) and Kemran Nurillaev (J2 64 kg); Kazakhstan's Zhurkamyrza Shukurbekov (J2 +95 kg); Georgia's Zviad Gogotchuri (J2 95 kg); Great Britain's Dan Powell (J1 95 kg), and Ukraine's Anastasiia Harnyk (J1 +70 kg).
