Havana, Jun 25 (RHC) - Deivis Junior Priol made history in the National Youth Speed Skating Championship by breaking the Cuban record for the category in the modality of 200 meters against the clock, in the track located in the capital of Cuba.

The Havana-born sprinter, a member of the main national team of this sport on the island, covered the distance with a time of 19.10 seconds. The previous record of 19.32 dated back to 2019, and the mark was held by Cienfuegos' Richard Díaz.

The podium was completed by the host Víctor Ortega and Maikol López from Cienfuegos, in that order.

The women's event was won by Regla Montelier from Sancti Spiritus, followed by Katerin Mezquia from Artemisa and Melany Andreu from Camagüey.

Priol also dominated the 500-meter-plus distance. He was seconded by Haddiel Jimenez, from Cienfuegos, and Sancti Spiritus Ortega.

Montelier, Andreu, and the capital's Melany Corbea crossed the finish line in that order in the women's version of this race.
