Cuba Condemns Terrorist Attack in Ecuador

Havana, January 30 (RHC) Cuba´s Foreign Ministry has condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated last Saturday in Esmeraldas, Ecuador and expressed its solidarity with the government and the people of the South American nation.

In a press statement, the Foreign Ministry wished a speedy recovery to the victims of the attack and reiterated its firm rejection and condemnation of all terrorist acts, methods and practices, irrespective of their motivations.

The release added that the attack contradicts the principles stated by  the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.

On Saturday a massive car bomb explosion near the National Police Headquarters, in the northern Pacific province of Esmeraldas, injuring at least 14 police officers.

The attack led President Lenin Moreno to declare a state of Emergency in San Lorenzo and Eloy Alfaro cities.

Moreno has blamed local drug cartels for the attack, saying: "It's a terrorist act linked to drug trafficking and criminal groups that have been defeated by the Ecuadoran State's security forces. We won't allow them intimidate us."
