Washington, March 18 (RHC)— Hundreds of American and Brazilian activists protested against the upcoming visit of Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, before the White House on Sunday.

Bolsonaro is already in the Unitwed States and will meet Donald Trump on Tuesday on his first foreign trip since taking office

For the protestors, the meeting between the two leaders "will mean only bad things to the oppressed people in their countries," as "the sexism, racism, and homophobia that come from Trump is the same thing that comes from Bolsonaro."

Sean Blackmoon, who led a protest in Washington shortly after the assassination of Councilwoman Marielle Franco, said that the protests are necessary to draw attention to these causes.

The protestors came with placards saying "Bolsonaro is a murderer" and "Free Lula", referring to the former Brazilian President (2003-2010) and leftist leader sentenced to 12 years in prison for alleged corruption.

He will also meet Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro.

Bolsonaro shares several of Trump’s habits: he is active on Twitter, which he uses alongside Facebook. He also dismisses negative media coverage as “fake news”.

He has promised to follow Trump’s lead and move Brazil’s Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and says he will travel to Israel later this month.
