78.24 % of Chileans approve replacing the Constitution

While the Election Service continues the counting of votes, thousands celebrate in Plaza de la Dignidad the victory of the "Approval."

Santiago de Chile, October 25 (RHC)-- According to a preliminary report of the Electoral Service of Chile, 78.17 percent of voters choose the "I approve" option to replace the current Constitution, promulgated under the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. 

Likewise, with 24.82 percent of the votes counted, the Constitutional Convention is the body elected, by 78.98 percent of the voters, to draft the new Constitution.   

President Sebastián Piñera said that "it is a triumph of all Chileans who love democracy, unity and peace."

As the polls closed on Sunday, thousands gathered at the Plaza de la Dignidad, where they celebrated waving flags and banging on pots and pans the first results that give victory to the "Approval" for a new Constitution.
