U.S. lawmakers file ethics complaint against senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley capitol assault

Washington, January 22 (RHC)-- Several Senate Democrats have filed an ethics complaint against Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley over their role in inciting the deadly January 6 insurrection at the Capitol and seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The complaint seeks an investigation into whether Cruz, Hawley -- from the U.S. states of Texas and Missouri, respectively -- or any of the senators’ staffers were in contact with organizers of the riot or helped to coordinate their actions.

The complaint comes as authorities are investigating hundreds of people in connection with the deadly pro-Trump riot at the US Capitol, including possible links to high-ranking Republicans who encouraged them.

Federal prosecutors said earlier this month that they are looking at everyone involved in the riot, including the role former president Donald Trump played in inciting it.  District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine warned that Trump could possibly be charged by city prosecutors with "a misdemeanor, a six-month-in-jail maximum," amid fallout from the insurrection.
