Bogota, July 6 (RHC)-- The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) has denounced yet another massacre in the Colombian municipality of Espinal, located in the department of Tolima.

According to Indepaz, three men were killed in the village of La Trinidad, located in the village of Chicoral (rural area), "the victims were shot in different parts of their bodies, their identity has not yet been clarified, two of them were of Venezuelan nationality," they add.

Indepaz reiterated that the Ombudsman's Office had issued a resolution warning about the presence of several armed groups, "it warned of the level of risk in the area due to the presence of several irregular groups and the confrontation between them", they add.

Among the organizations transiting through the area are the Segunda Marquetalia, FARC dissidents and the paramilitary groups Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia and the Aguilas Negras.

The public order situation in Colombia is critical; in the last two days two social leaders were murdered and a massacre was perpetrated, the latter in the department of Cauca (southwest of the country).

After this aberrant event, the South American country completes 48 massacres in six months of 2021, as well as the murder of 84 social leaders in the same period of time. Since the signing of the Peace Agreement in 2016, Colombia registers the chilling figure of 1,200 murdered social leaders.
