Brasilia, June 16 (RHC)-- Brazilian authorities say a suspect has confessed to killing and dismembering British journalist Dom Phillips and the Brazilian Indigenous expert Bruno Araújo Pereira. Brazilian police said the suspect led them to a spot where human remains were found.

In a statement, a local Indigenous group condemned the murders and praised the work of Phillips and Pereira, saying: “They were both human rights defenders and died doing work to look after us Indigenous people.”

Days before Pereira went missing, he reportedly received threats for his efforts to stop illegal fishing in the area.  The two suspects arrested so far are brothers who fish for a living.
