New York, September 26 (Andina-RHC) -- Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso will be awarded the “Golden Insigne” by the Americas Society, in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments as president of the Andean country.

The organization’s highest honor will be presented in a special ceremony Friday at Americas Society’s historic building in New York. The Gold Insigne is awarded to democratically elected heads of state from the Western Hemisphere who work to promote greater awareness of the cultural, social, and political realities of the region, and greater understanding among the nations of the Americas.

"Under President Humala’s leadership, Peru has emerged as one of the strongest, most stable, and competitive economies in Latin America," said the Americas Society President and CEO Susan Segal.

The Americas Society is the premier forum dedicated to education, debate, and dialogue in the Americas.

Its mission is to foster an understanding of the contemporary political, social, and economic issues confronting Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada, and to increase public awareness and appreciation of the diverse cultural heritage of the Americas and the importance of inter-American relationships.
