Venezuela Closes Border with Zulia State

Caracas, September 8 (RHC)-- Venezuela has extended control measures taken on its border with Colombia to the municipality of Paraguachón in Zulia State, with the canceling of free transit to and from the neighboring country.

A constitutional state of emergency in the Guajira, Mara and Almirante Padilla Municipalities has been declared while three thousand troops from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces are be deployed to the border area.

Such measures join those that have been implemented since August 20th in the state of Táchira, after Colombian paramilitary groups attacked a Venezuelan military patrol on the border.
