Former Mayor of Cocula Arrested in Connection with Ayotzinapa

Mexico City, December 18 (RHC-PL) -- The former mayor of Cocula, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, Cesar Miguel Penaloza, was arrested for allegedly taking part in organized crime, reported the Office of the General Prosecutor (PGR).

The Assistant Attorney General's Office for Special Investigations on Organized Crime (SEIDO) obtained an arrest warrant against the former mayor of Cocula, stating that the 43 Ayotzinapa students, disappeared on September 26, 2014 in Iguala, were killed and incinerated.

The Federal Police and the Navy carried out the arrest against Penaloza. He had been detained by federal authorities of the alleged crimes against health, however, he was set free.

More than a hundred people are under arrest in connection with repression in Iguala on September 26, 2014 against students from the rural school of Ayotzinapa, and the disappearance of the 43 students.

Yesterday, the Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio met with the families of the victims and said that investigations continue.
