Havana, January 24 (RHC)-- The extended troika of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), comprising Chile, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, is meeting in Havana prior to the 2nd Summit of that regional bloc.

The closed session precedes the meeting of regional experts on January 25th and 26th, to outline the agenda to be discussed during the summit of heads of State and Government. The meeting of foreign ministers will be held on January 27th.

The main slogan of the summit will be the struggle against hunger, poverty and inequality, and will seek to declare the region a peace zone and free of nuclear weapons, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno stated.

A draft final declaration and an action plan for 2014 are currently under debate. The summit of heads of state is schedule to open on January 28th and 29th at the Pabexpo exhibition center in Havana, with the participation of dignitaries from the 33 countries comprising CELAC.

CELAC was founded in December 2011 in Venezuela to promote regional integration. Its first summit was held in Santiago de Chile in January last year, at which Cuba took over the bloc's presidency for the year 2013.
