Havana, August 27 (RHC)-- Cuba's anti-virus company Segurmatica, offers 100% coverage of the virus threats that the island faces, in coordination with users’ feedback.

The company's premise is to respond in up to 72 hours after the report of a new malicious program, although sometimes it takes a little longer given the complexity of the attacker program, Niurka Edith Milanés Sarduy, general director of the company, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The executive added that the most common route of infection in Cuba is through webmail, and that ransomware and trojan viruses stand out. In the case of the former, Milanes said the island has seen numerous cases in which access to systems has been restricted and payment of a ransom has been requested to remove the restriction.

She also drew attention to phishing, a program that is entering Cuba or being used in non-secure networks to obtain confidential information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details pretending to be a reliable and legitimate communication.

Milanes Sarduy said that the company's threat detection work and the generation of solutions is also nourished by feedback, since many people, customers or not, send reports of malicious programs or other suspects.

So far this year Segurmatica has received more than 600 notifications of this type, more than twice as many as in the same period last year, she argued.

Segurmatica’s top executive said that as the Cuban computerization policy states, cybersecurity is one of the pillars on which the programs executed on the island must be based, an issue for which companies are preparing to support and taking safe steps taken on this path.

Regarding the massive number of connections by natural persons that is happening in the country, Milanes said that people are not always conscious that some actions they make may represent a challenge for the security of sensitive equipment and information, and that the company is also working to increase the service to this sector.
