Prime Minister Manuel Marrero

Havana, October 24 (RHC)—Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz says the country needs to consolidate the new normality and activate its economy.

Speaking on Friday at the meeting of the government's temporary working group for the confrontation to the COVID-19, Marrero Cruz insisted on the importance of extreme surveillance and control measures to avoid setbacks, because even in those places where no cases are reported, there could be asymptomatic people.

The Prime Minister urged Havana to reinforce the fulfillment of all the established protocols so that there is not a reverse of current indicators.

During the meeting, the governor of Pinar del Río, Rubén Ramos Moreno, offered updated information about the complex scenario presented by the westernmost  Cuban province, which this week went back to the epidemic stage, in its limited native transmission phase.

Through videoconference, Ramos Moreno explained that the territory keeps two local transmission events open, in the municipalities of Guane and Consolación del Sur.

Until Friday, Cuba kept hospitalized, 450 COVID 19 positive patients, but the number of admissions is much higher, with 3 489 persons in epidemiological surveillance, the Minister of Public Health Jose Angel Portal informed.

The Minister stated that, with 6,479 infections up to this Friday-, Cuba ranks 21st in the Americas and 116th globally.
